Taxes on winnings

Tax treatment depends on the lottery and your country of residence. Here's the general picture so you know what to expect.
The general rule
Some lotteries withhold tax at source before the prize reaches you; others don't. Your own tax obligations also depend on where you live. Whenever a prize is taxed at source, we always show you the net amount you'll actually receive, no surprises.
A few examples
- Spanish lotteries (El Gordo, La Primitiva): the operator withholds tax on prizes above a threshold.
- US lotteries (Powerball, Mega Millions): tax is withheld at source by the US operator. You may have additional obligations in your own country.
- Italian SuperEnalotto: a fixed share is withheld by the operator before the prize is paid out.
Lottofy cannot give tax advice. For your personal situation, please consult a qualified tax adviser. We provide every receipt and certificate the operator issues so you always have full documentation.
