What is the EuroMillions Million and how do you win it?

Within EuroMillions there is one feature that still causes confusion among many players: the so-called “Million”. Although it is often associated directly with the main jackpot, it actually works as an independent prize system with a completely different mechanism from the traditional numbers-and-stars draw.

Unlike the main jackpot, which depends on matching a specific combination, the Million is linked to an identifier automatically assigned to each entry. That difference is exactly why many players are unsure how it really works.

What exactly is the Million?

The Million in EuroMillions is a fixed €1,000,000 prize awarded to a specific entry in each draw.

Every ticket automatically receives a unique alphanumeric code when the bet is validated. That code enters the Million draw independently of the numbers selected for the main game.

This means that a single ticket participates in two separate draws at the same time:
the traditional EuroMillions numbers-and-stars draw and the additional Million code draw.

How do you participate in the Million?

Players do not need to take any additional steps to participate in the Million. There are no extra boxes to tick or additional options to activate.

When a EuroMillions entry is validated, the system automatically generates a code linked to that ticket. That identifier is what enters the Million draw.

In practice, every ticket has its own unique identity within the system.

How do you win the Million?

Winning the Million does not require matching numbers or stars. The process is completely separate from the main draw.

For each draw, one winning code is selected from all the codes generated for valid entries. The ticket associated with that code automatically wins the €1,000,000 prize.

In other words, the Million is not based on the numbers chosen by the player, but on the identifier assigned to the ticket.

What makes it different from the main jackpot?

Although both belong to the EuroMillions system, the Million and the main jackpot work very differently.

The main jackpot depends on matching five numbers and two stars and can roll over for several draws if there are no winners.

The Million, however:

  • Offers a fixed €1,000,000 prize
  • Does not depend on number combinations
  • Is awarded through a ticket identifier
  • Operates independently from the main draw result

That difference is what makes the Million such a unique part of EuroMillions.

Can you win both the Million and the main jackpot?

Yes. Since the Million works independently from the main EuroMillions jackpot, the same ticket can technically win both prizes at the same time.

A player could match all five numbers and two stars while also holding the winning Million code on the same ticket.

Although this situation is extremely rare, both prizes are fully compatible because they are determined through different systems.

While the main jackpot depends on the selected numbers, the Million is determined by the automatically generated ticket code.

That is why many players check their Million code before even looking at the main numbers.

Why does this system exist?

The Million was introduced as a way to add an extra layer of prizes to EuroMillions without changing the structure of the main game.

Thanks to this system, every ticket gives players an additional chance to win through a completely separate mechanism.
