Source of funds checks

Updated Jun 26, 20262 min read

Most players will never receive a source of funds request. When we do ask, it's a legal requirement from the MGA, not a sign of suspicion.

Why we ask

As a licensed operator under the Malta Gaming Authority, Lottofy is legally required to verify the origin of funds at certain thresholds. This is not a personal judgement, it's a regulatory obligation that applies equally to every player who reaches those levels. Think of it as the same check your bank runs when large amounts move through an account.

When we'll ask

Source-of-funds checks apply when:

  • Cumulative deposits in 12 months cross a regulatory threshold (typically €2,000, then €15,000 and €30,000 tiers).
  • A withdrawal exceeds €2,000.
  • Your activity changes sharply, for example several large deposits after a long quiet period.
  • A major prize is paid out.

When a check is required, our system will prompt you directly to upload the necessary documents. The process is straightforward and clearly explained at each step.

What we accept

  • Recent payslips (last 3 months).
  • Bank statements showing salary or business income.
  • Tax return or a recent assessment.
  • Evidence of inheritance, pension, dividends or the sale of property.

All documentation is treated with complete confidentiality and used solely to meet our regulatory requirements. Once accepted, it stays on file and the threshold resets, we won't ask for the same evidence twice unless your circumstances change.
