There are gifts that last a lifetime, either for their importance or for the memory, but this is certainly a gift that no one will forget. Maria Chicas' husband bought the Scratcher Extreme Millions ticket a few days before Valentine's Day.
Virginia Lottery and his wife ended up winning a $10 million prize.

Homemaker Maria Chicas of Haymarket, Virginia, claimed the Scratcher Extreme Millions ticket last week after it revealed a $10 million prize.

According to news outlet, Upi.com, Chicas told Virginia Lottery officials that she thought her husband was joking when he told her they had won, but the news seems to have caught on and Chicas appears beaming in photos on the Virginia Lottery's various social media pages.

A Virginia Lottery spokesperson said Chicas' husband, whose name was not released, bought the ticket at In & Out Mart in Manassas, Virginia, a few days before Valentine's Day.

He scratched the ticket and realized it was a winner. That's when he called his wife," the spokesperson said.

Chicas would have responded, 'Oh, you're lying! I thought he was joking," he later admitted.

But he was telling the truth: they had won the jackpot on that particular scratch-off lottery ticket, worth $10 million. The odds of winning were 1 in 2,937,600.

Chicas cheerfully held up a novelty check when she picked up her prize last week, smiling and making a heart symbol with her hand.

All the prize in a single payment

It is very common for lotteries such as the Powerball to give the possibility of receiving the prize in installments over months or years or simply to give the prize in a single payment. The brand-new winner chose, instead of receiving the full amount paid out over time, she chose the single payment option of $6,570,302.

Chicas is the fourth and final jackpot winner of this particular game, which is now suspended.

The In & Out Mart store received a $50,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
