Euromillions reaches its biggest record with a prize of 240 million euros

Luck has smiled especially hard on one person in Austria, where a single winning bet managed to win the record Euromillions mega jackpot, which had reached a record 240 million euros in last Friday's draw. This lucky person can undoubtedly say that he became a multimillionaire overnight after the results of the draw were confirmed.

And the fact is that the impressive figure of 240 million euros, means a fortune even greater than that of celebrities as well known as the British singer Adele (whose fortune is estimated at 189 million euros) or the former One Direction Harry Styles (with a fortune of about 172 million euros).

As the only player to match all 5 numbers and 2 stars of the draw, not only will he receive the full prize, but also the laws of the Austrian country exempt lottery prizes from paying taxes, so the winner will be able to collect the full prize without withholding taxes. Undoubtedly an incredible fortune!

Although the identity of the lucky winner is still unknown, there is no doubt that he is one of the luckiest players in the history of Euromillions, winning the biggest jackpot in the history of the main European lottery. For now, according to the Austrian Lottery rules, he will have up to 3 years to claim his prize, so he will still have plenty of time to make himself known.

New Euromillions limit

Friday's draw not only resulted in the largest jackpot in the history of EuroMillions, but also in a new lottery limit. Until last Friday, the EuroMillions limit was set at 240 million euros, since the previous limit of 230 million euros was reached in July 2022.

We remind you that, according to the current Euromillions rules, the original limit, which was initially set at 200 million euros, has the particularity of growing another 10 million each time it is reached. Thus, the first time someone hit the 200 million euro jackpot, the Euromillions limit rose again by 10 million euros to 210 million euros, and so on until last Friday's draw, where they finally managed to hit the new record jackpot, which had its limit at 240 million euros.

What happens now? Well, as in the previous cases, the Euromillions jackpot limit will grow another 10 million euros from the next draw. Therefore, as of this Tuesday, the Euromillions jackpot will be able to grow up to the new limit of 250 million euros.
However, the current rules also set a cap on the Euromillions limit. This means that there is a maximum value from which it will not increase again. And this maximum value is precisely 250 million, so once this new record is reached again, there will be no more increases in the Euromillions limit. At least until the current regulations are modified.

A historic draw

Undoubtedly, the draw of Friday, December 8 will go down in the history of Euromillions. The winning numbers of the draw were 17, 30, 42, 48, 50 and the two stars 4 and 8. But in addition to the lucky Austrian winner, who won the full prize by matching all the numbers of the draw, there were also 5 other lucky winners who won more than 1.5 million euros, specifically 1,584,039.19 euros each, by matching the second prize. These 5 winners shared the second prize between France (1), Spain (1) and United Kingdom (3).
