Croupier, all-in, bonus, payline... The casino world can be a bit intimidating for less experienced players, because of the many terms and expressions that make up its jargon and that are unfamiliar to most people taking their first steps in gambling.

But as in all things in life, it is very important to know and master casino jargon so you can think fast and know what is happening on the game table without missing any details. That's why we've created this glossary of the main terms and expressions of the casino world, so you can have a handy guide to help you become an expert player.

A

Action – It can mean two things: the amount of money in play in a round, or the croupier's indication that it is a player's turn.

Add-on – It is a term used to indicate that, during a specific moment of the game, players have the possibility to buy more chips to increase their bets.

Aggregate Limit – This is the limit up to which the casino can pay out in a single round.

All in – A player makes an all-in when he bets all his chips on a single move.

Ante Bet – This is the mandatory initial bet that must be placed before starting the game, usually in poker.

B

Baccarat – It is a card game of French origin, where the objective is to score 9.

Banker – The person who plays on behalf of the casino, usually the croupier, and against whom the players bet.

Bankroll – This is another term used to refer to the player's money balance.

Big Blind or BB – This is a type of mandatory ante bet used in poker. The player who gets the Big Blind in a round is obliged to bet twice as much as the previous player (Small Blind) in order to participate in the game.

Blackjack It is a card game also known as Twenty-One, as the objective to win is to score 21.

Blind Bet – It is the first round of betting in poker, before the play begins.

Bonus – These are rewards or incentives given by the casino to its players, usually in the form of a balance, which they can use to play.

Bonus Round – Used in slots, a bonus round allows you to increase your chances of winning on those spins.

Burn Card – In poker, it is the first card in the deck that must always be discarded before each play.

Bust – A term used in Blackjack to refer to the fact that a player has gone over 21.

Bluff – A term commonly used in poker to refer to a person who tries to appear to have a very good hand in order to get his opponents to fold.

Buy-In – The amount of money required to enter a gaming table.

C

Cashable – A type of bonus or balance that can be cashed out upon withdrawal.

Cash Bonus – A type of bonus consisting of monetary balance.

Cashback – This is the money a player can earn.

Chargeback – It is the payment repaid to the player.

Column – In roulette, it is a type of outside bet that allows you to bet that the ball will land in one of the 3 columns of the roulette table.

Corner Bet – In roulette, this bet allows you to bet on 4 consecutive numbers at the same time.

Croupier – The person who represents the casino at the gaming tables, who is in charge of dealing the cards and directing the game.

D

Deal – The term used to refer to the distribution of cards.

Dealer – This is another name used to refer to the croupier.

Deposit Bonus – It is a type of bonus that requires the player to first deposit a certain amount of money.

Double – This is a possible play in Blackjack, where you ask to double your bet and also receive an extra card.

Dozen – In roulette, a type of outside bet that allows you to bet that the ball will land on one of 3 dozen numbers.

F

Five Bet – This is a type of American roulette bet, which allows you to bet on the first 3 numbers on the board plus the two 00.

Flush – A poker hand made up of 5 cards of the same suit.

Full House – A poker hand made up of 2 cards of the same suit plus 3 cards of another suit.

H

Hand – These are the cards in the player's hand.

Hard Hand – In Blackjack, it is a hand without an Ace.

High or Low Number - In roulette, a type of outside bet that allows you to bet that the ball will land within the first 18 numbers (low) or the last 18 numbers (high).

High Roller – A player who bets very high, above average amounts.

Hit – The action of asking for another card in Blackjack.

House Edge – It's the advantage of the casino.

In Prison – It is a possible play in French Roulette when placing outside bets, since, if the ball lands on number zero, it allows the player to "lock in" his bet until the next round.

Inside Bet – Refers to betting inside the roulette table, where it is possible to bet on specific numbers.

J

Jackpot – This is the highest prize that a player can win, usually in slots.

Joker – It can be a special type of card, or also a figure in slot machines, which usually substitutes for any other card or figure needed to win.

L

La Partage – This is a game rule allowed in French Roulette. When a player has placed an outside bet and the ball lands on number zero, the player can choose this option so that the dealer only keeps half of his bet.

Layout – The gaming area where players can place their bets.

Line Bet - In roulette, this bet allows you to bet on 6 numbers at a time (two contiguous lines).

M

Multiplier – In slots, a symbol that allows you to multiply your winnings by a certain amount.

O

Odd or Even - In roulette, a type of outside bet that allows you to bet that the winning number will be odd or even.

Outside Bet – Refers to bets outside the game table in roulette. They allow betting on colour, odd or even, high or low number, etc.

P

Pair - A type of hand in poker, where you have two matching cards.

Parlay – Means that bets from the previous round are accumulated in the new round as there is no winner.

Payline – These are the lines of slots on which prizes can be won if the figures appear on them.

Poker – A card game where the player with the highest combination of cards wins. It can also refer to the type of hand in poker where you have four of a kind.

Progressive Jackpot – Jackpots that can grow without limit, since as players play without winning, the prize increases.

R

Reel – In the slots, it is the rotating column where the figures appear.

Red or Black - In roulette, a type of outside bet that allows you to bet on whether the ball will land in a red or black pocket.

RNG (Random Number Generator) – It is the algorithm that guarantees the randomness of the results in slot machines.

Roulette – It is a game that consists of guessing where the ball will land inside a spinning wheel.

Royal Flush – A type of hand in poker, where the straight is formed from the 10 to the Ace of the same suit.

RTP (Return to Player) – Indicates the percentage of the player's winnings on slot machines.

S

Scatter – In slots, it is a special symbol that allows you to activate special features, such as free spins.

Slot – These are machines where it is necessary to match a certain number of identical figures in order to win different prizes.

Small Blind – This is the first bet to be placed by the player to the left of the dealer.

Soft Hand – In Blackjack, it is a hand with an Ace.

Split – In Blackjack, it is a type of play that allows you to split your hand in two.

Three of a Kind – This is a type of hand in poker, where you have 3 matching cards.

Top line bet – This is a type of betting in Russian and French roulette, which allows you to bet on the first 3 numbers on the board plus the 0 square.

Two Pair – A type of hand in poker, where you have two pairs of cards.

W

Wager – It is another term used to refer to betting.

Wild – This is another term used to refer to the joker
